something old, something new...

i used to make jewelry.
now i knit.
recently, i've combined the two...

...and i like it.
what do you think?

{hand-knit with wet spun linen, lobster claw closure, some have metal beads and some do not}

prettiest/tastiest donuts ever!

yesterday, we made donuts.

we used this recipe. thank you, kaylah :)

we made them chocolate by replacing the cinnamon & nutmeg with cocoa powder.

we iced them with teal icing because what other color would we use?!

they are as tasty as they are pretty, if not more so. we will make them again, often!

modifications:
- i used 3 sturdy teaspoons of cocoa powder in place of the nutmeg & cinnamon.
- i used coconut milk instead of soy milk and whole wheat flour instead of all purpose flour.

a little perspective

i think i'd really like this book.
it seems well suited to the way i absorb information best...
minimal text and LOTS of visuals. pretty, colorful visuals.
i got completely sucked into the web site.
so much aesthetically pleasing, interesting content.

the fellow behind it all is David McCandless, a london-based author, writer and designer.

"I’m interested in how designed information can help us understand the world, cut through BS and reveal the hidden connections, patterns and stories underneath. Or, failing that, it can just look cool!"

he loves pie and hates pie charts.
i like his style.

best trick ever...

i've had a nasty chest cough for at least 2 weeks now.
we all have it.
it's the worst.
i hadn't slept in days because at even the hint of laying down my body would go into some sort of hysterical coughing/choking fit. i was getting desperate for rest and crankier by the minute... started to wonder if this cough was in fact pure evil and an exorcism was the only way out...?

the other night my friend tracie called, just to say hello and offer up a little sanity saving advice, "just rub a little vicks on your feet sarah" (she assured me it wasn't intended to improve the respiratory function of my toes, rather it should keep the cough at bay).

i was too delirious to question how this could possibly work, i just went for it... and i slept wake-less-ly all night.

i still have the cough, so it's magical powers are limited, but i've been sleeping so we'll all live to see another day.

*the photo above is a pretty new tea cup i thrifted and the tea that didn't soothe my throat whatsoever.
