a perfect thursday =

my 3 favorite people + sunshine + climber + friends + hot lips + ecotrust.

we spent the afternoon and evening at an outdoor concert in nw portland, the last
in a series of outdoor summer shows at the portland ecotrust building.
we went for climber, and caught a surprise acoustic set by silversun pickups.
both bands were fantastic and we had such a good time.

we soaked in the blue sky,

and laughed til we nearly peed!

we held hands,

and talked and talked and talked.

we were actors, the verrrry dramatic sort.

we were beautiful...

and happy...

and awesome.

*smelly is 5 and already knows her way around a camera. she's got an eye for composition and loves taking photos of everything around her. i love looking through her photos.

i've been appreciating her music since beautiful sleepyhead and the laughing yaks came out in 2007. her voice is one of my favorites and the way she mixes classical music with hip hop beats is genius. i've seen her play live once, it was everything i thought it would be and more. i met her after the show and she was as kind as she is talented.
she liked my tattoos.
it was a good night.

she's playing this wednesday at mississippi studios for $10, $12 at the door. if you live in portland, you should go.
seriously.
you'll be glad you did.

music monday presents...

... spanish sahara. a new track and hauntingly gorgeous video from foals.

i love this band a forever kind of love. i saw them play live for the first time in seattle a few years ago at a sub pop new talent release event. after waiting outside 2+ windy, rainy hours when the doors were supposed to be open, we finally got inside to what was one of the worst venues i've ever been to, where we still had to wait another hour for the opener to start playing, who by the way continues to hold the title of the absolute worst band i've ever seen or heard... but foals. they were spectacular. and so. much. fun. and incredibly friendly and lovely to talk to. made the whole night worth it. i've seen them a few times since here in portland and in colorado. i hope they make it back to the u.s. soon. if they do, you should go see them!!

spanish sahara is on their forthcoming sophomore album titled "total life forever" and will be available in the u.s. digitally on may 11th.

be still my stop-motion heart.

this is so beautiful it makes me want to cry. i have such a crush on alison sudol. her voice is magic and her lyrics are so beautifully and eloquently written i can barely make it through a song without tears. i often feel as though she is singing about my thoughts and feelings, if only i could articulate them as flawlessly as she. there is one song in particular that hits so close to home for me, i sob every time i hear it. i've been lucky enough to see a fine frenzy play live a few times, and if you haven't you should. she is spectacularly talented, incredibly sweet and so delightfully fun.

this is so cool!!!

So the oldest zephyrlet started school this year, and she goes to the coolest school in the whole wide world! It's called The Village Free School, it's located in SE Portland and it's not just an amazing place for delaney to learn and experience new things. It is a community filled with incredible individuals who have welcomed our family with open arms and friendly faces.

I encourage anyone who can make it to come check it out, or follow some of the links here in this post and read a little bit about what an amazing place the village free school is. It's going to be a crazy fun day and it's for a really good cause.

Blue Period

Yup... that's where we are. Or at least, that's what we're calling it. Our Blue Period... we seem to be stuck in a chunky yarn phase.

We were chatting on the phone the other day expressing how we really needed a chunky sassy pattern! Something fun to knit, fun to wear and fast. Something to kick off fall knitting with a bang. One of those weekend knits that sets off your cool weather knitting with an exuberant happy dance! The ones you do in your front yard with NO shame! And folks we did it and we likey! We likey a lot!

Not sure how long this chunky double stranding big needle "blue period" will last. But while it does we are havin a ball! Cant wait to show you what we came up with. Sneaky picture bits soon!

ps. That pic of us was last weekend when we got together for a freakin awesome weekend! Yummiest blood orange martini EVER! We have no words for the Tegan and Sarah concert we went to.... completely speechless.... it was really that good! An all around fabulous time!
